Catarsis Hall

We meet Orestes Larios, a Cuban artist who is known
to look at nature with the aesthetic vision that only
an art lover and creator can have.
As we contemplate his paintings, we see a different
world crowded with details of flowers and plants in
harmonious ranges of green as this natural world is
seen through the animal presence, everything is made
with exquisite taste.
Suddenly, we move over to different world which is
that of the artist. This one is manifested by means
of geometry. In his work, those squares and rectangles
which are used to set the limits of the spaces are
quite peculiar. They are used to alter our vision.
For a moment we attentively contemplate leaves and
flowers but in another the vision diffuses as if the
world were out of focus. Nevertheless, sometimes we
see animals that should be in its context but are
over a neutral space. This makes no sense, but actually
it does in the fantasy of the artist.
Orestes Larios' work, which can be seen in Catarsis
Hall, is beautiful by itself. The sensuality of its
colors is complemented by means of that taste for
the sobriety that infuses the spectator with peace
and a quietness. These are hard to get in a world
like ours ruled by haste and anguish. Here we have
a renown Cuban painter who knows how to fit the love
for nature and unquestionable source of beauty, with
a refined taste for the artistic. Larios knows how
to render his particular vision (as only a creator
can do) of something we all see but are incapable
of shaping on a canvas.

"When the term "ecology" was not so
popular as it is today in the field of politics, sciences,
and arts Orestes Larios Zaak lived with the obsession
for the relation of man-fauna, man-flora ."
